Commentary

The reverse inscription begins with the owner's Christian name in the dative case but records his family name in the nominative.

The owner of this seal could be identical to John Amiropoulos who in 989 was patrician and katepano of Italy: Falkenhausen, Dominazione, 87. On other seals of officials active in Pontos, see the commentary to BZS 1947.2.994.
