Accession number BZS.1955.1.283
Diameter 21 mm
Previous Editions

Zacos-Veglery, no. 1323.

Obverse

Bust of a saint (possibly St. Matthew), nimbate, with pointed beard. In fields to l. and r., crosses. Indeterminate border.

Reverse

Cruciform monogram. Indeterminate border.

 - ε - θ - μ - ο - τ - υ

Ματθέου

Translation

Ματθέου.

(Seal of) Matheos.

Commentary

The reverse monogram is at first deceptive, because the Τ on the upper arm of the cruciform is broken in off, and therefore seems to be a Γ; however, the Γ gives no satisfactory resolution, and moreover the remains of the Τ on the left side of the upper arm are perceptible.
