Translation

Οὐμπέρτον συνώνυμον οἰκέτην σκέποις.

May you watch over your servant Humbertos who shares your name.

Commentary

The owner is an otherwise unknown member of a family of Norman origin well attested in the eleventh century; see Wassiliou-Seibt's remarks with further references.

The lettering in the fourth line of the reverse is not clear and has been transcribed with some misgivings. Note what appears to be an unusual ligature of nu and omega at the end of the second line.
