Theotokos, help your servant Theodore, metropolitan of Synada.

Commentary

Synada (modern Şuhut, at 26 km to the south of Afyon Karahisar) was Christianised in ancient times. Its bishops are attested from the third century, and it was a metropolis in a region where heresies were rampant. Although poor and situated in an unproductive region, the metropolis seems to have survived as late as the fourteenth century. See Laurent, Corpus V/3, 93; Phrygien und Pisidien, 393-95; ODB III, 1990.
