Commentary
Only one Theophanes is mentioned in the Synodikon of Thessalonica (Gouillard, Synodikon, 114); he became metropolitan before 1031 and was deposed in special circumstances by the emperor in 1038 (cf. EO 5 [1901-2] 26). Our seal informs us that he had also become a synkellos.
