Commentary

Both monograms contain a good deal of ambiguity. What has been deemed here the obverse monogram, read as the name Φιλαγρίου, can also be interpreted as the uncommon office of λογογράφου (logographos), and the reverse κουβικουλαρίου can be read as a name such as Βάκκου (Vakkos) or Βικάριου (Vikarios). It is unclear which is the more likely combination, though the reading of Zacos, Φιλαγρίου κουβικουλαρίου, has been chosen here.
