Commentary
Our reading differs from the one in Zacos-Veglery in two respects. The latter postulated that line 3 (rev.) begins with the abbreviation sign , but we believe that there is insufficient space for this sign. Additionally, they have transcribed ΤΑΒΥΔ/ (line 4) as τοῦ ἀβυδικοῦ, a reading needlessly forced, since the title of kommerkiarios of the abydos of Thessalonica makes sense. Our reading is supported by DO Seals 1, no. 18.3. It is very probable that the owner of this seal is identical to that of DO Seals 1, no. 18.3.
