Translation

Θεοτόκε βοήθει τῷ σῷ δούλῳ Θεοδότῳ (?) πατρικίῳ καὶ στρατηγῷ Σικελίας.

Theotokos, help your servant Theodotos (?) patrikios and strategos of Sicily.

Commentary

The reconstruction of the name is uncertain: it could just as well be Θεοδοσίῳ or Θεοδούλῳ. But we know of a patrikios Theodotos who was killedi n 830/1, when Mineo fell to the Arabs (Chronicle of Cambridge, in A. Vasiliev, Byzance et les Arabes I [Brussels, 1935], 345, cf. 128).
