σφράγισμα Θεοδώρου τοῦ Τζιπουρέλη.

Seal of Theodore Tzipoureles.

Commentary

Wassiliou-Seibt included this inscription in her catalogue of metrical seals, but it is not clear how the inscription should be reconstituted. If (as we believe) the owner's Christian name is Theodore (echoing the name of the saint represented on the obverse), then the word in the first line of the reverse should be read as σφράγισμα to provide the right number of syllables. Otherwise, if the first word is σφραγίς, the owner's name would require another syllable (Theodosios). Wassiliou-Seibt also read the family name as Tziloureles, but it seems to us that the second last letter of the third line of the reverse is Π, giving Tzipoureles, a name attested on seals noted in her commentary.
